Drew graduated from the business school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in December, 1983. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from Meredith College in December, 2013. Drew started his career in the internal audit department of a local bank, then worked for a NC office of a national CPA firm, and finally for a local CPA firm in Cary.
While working these jobs, Drew learned:
- Practical accounting
- The use and installation of the new wave of desktop accounting that is now so prevalent
- Proper tax research starting with the actual law and regulations instead of relying on editors interpretations
- All sorts of tax work, including
- sales tax
- payroll taxes
- income tax returns for individuals, businesses, trusts and estates
- tax planning
As a result of his tax experience, Drew believes, as Judge Learned Hand so aptly said – “Anyone may so arrange his affairs that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which will best pay the Treasury; there is not even a patriotic duty to increase one’s taxes.” Tax planning before a taxpayer does something is how to get the greatest tax savings. You can learn more of how he thinks by reading his blog.
He earned his NC CPA certificate (number 16091) in September, 1986. In 1988 he opened the firm Andrew H. Edmundson, CPA which later became Edmundson & Company, CPAs. Drew is a member of the North Carolina Association of CPAs and American Institute of CPAs. You can find more information on his QuickBooks certifications on the ProAdvisor site.
