Earlier this week IRS announced that over 900,000 individual taxpayers who did not file a 2010 return may be due a refund. IRS estimates the total refunds due are almost $760 million or about $844 per taxpayer on average. If you have not filed for 2010 then time is running out. The deadline is April 15, 2014. IRS now allows you to get a transcript of the tax forms they have on file for you for 2010. You can get your transcript here.
If you decide to file, please send the return certified or registered mail. If the mail gets delayed or never shows up at IRS and it is past April 15, 2014 then you lose your refund.
Now if you have not filed for 2010 and you owe, do not think all is forgiven April 15, 2014. IRS has forever to assess tax for a year where the taxpayer did not file.
